Did Friends get away with homophobia because it was aired in a time when there was less of a movement? Thoughts? Discuss.

They made jokes but no they weren't homophobic. The characters stated many times in the series they were okay with people being gay especially during Carol's wedding.

the shows co creator is gay plus there was ample representation of gay relationships and the odd gay joke is funny not offensive. people need to stop forcing 2015 social ideals onto 20 year old shows.

It was a different time for LGBT on television tbh, i think if they were to air now they would be a lot more sensitive to some issues.
I mean look at Will & Grace, at the time it was applauded for its LGBT themes and now when we look back on it its filled with cliches, stereotypes of the gay community and is now criticized for some of the shows aspects.

I really hated the 'no-homo' parts between the guys.

But then again I'm never offended by the f word (for gays). It doesn't exist in my vocabulary and anyone saying it is merely speaking gibberish. Pretty sure it's a food of some sort. Yet another person would get angry and cry. You're in control of your own emotions, what you deem offensive, what words mean to you, and whether you react to it. They're just words.

Well, if Friends offended you that much, I suggest you to never watch Will and Grace.

Plus Susan and Carol were lesbian on that show and their storyline was talking about accepting gay marriage and told the audience, nothings wrong with it.

Yeah exactly, that doesn't take away someone's right to be offended by the use of that word. If someone's offended at canned laughter being the assumed reaction to a gay wedding or constant mis-usage of a transgender womans pronouns then let them be.

For that timeframe not at all. They had gay characters & embraced the culture without needing to. Susan & Carol weren't even based on stereotypes. They could've easily been construction workers of some sort, but they weren't. They were seen as regular women.

Stop using your 2015 mindset to reflect on 20 year old sitcoms.
