Charice to release a Japanese album!
Quote:
MANILA, Philippines—Charice Pempengco sounded a bit flustered when she spoke to the Inquirer by phone early Sunday morning.
The 17-year-old international pop star, back home from a two-month trip to Los Angeles and New York to promote “Pyramid,” her first US single, was upset with gay gossip circulating on the Net after her recent appearance at Club 57—a popular gay club on West 57th St. in NYC.
She was there, Pempengco said, to sing “Pyramid” to an appreciative dance club crowd. “Pyramid” is selling fast on iTunes and Amazon.com. The song is No. 4 on the Billboard Dance Remix chart. Some 15 remix versions of “Pyramid” by various foreign DJs are available as downloads.
“Even Madonna goes to gay clubs to promote her songs,” said the Filipino singer.
But what really bothered Pempengco were the rumors about the sexuality of her friend, David Archuleta, “American Idol” Season 7 runner-up, which intensified because he was spotted at the gay club.
“David is a good friend and he was there as my guest. I just want to make that clear,” she said, her tone rising. Clearly, Pempengco was annoyed, seemingly uncomfortable in the celebrity world she now inhabits.
But it’s a small price to pay for the dizzying heights her career has reached.
On Monday, she flies to Japan to start recording a single for an all-Nihongo album which, she said, was the idea of record executives who believe she can conquer the lucrative Japanese market. Her US record label, Warner, supports the move.
On May 11, a day after she turns 18, Charice will make her fourth appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to formally launch her full-length self-titled album. “I’ll be with Justin Bieber,” she said. Bieber is the 16-year-old Canadian singer whose own album, “My World 2.0,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart recently.
It was Winfrey who, after watching Pempengco sing Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” on her show, declared the petite Pinay singer as “the most talented girl in the world”—a boast the queen of talk TV would personally nurture using her power and influence.
Winfrey called record producer David Foster who put Pempengco on the bill of a number of high-profile concerts, sharing the stage with Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion and Josh Groban. Foster also produced her debut album on his own record label under the Warner
Music Group.
However, it was Ellen DeGeneres, Pempengco said, who was responsible for her first crucial TV guest stint seen by millions around the world. “She told me backstage, ‘Just be yourself and the good breaks will come your way,’” she recalled.

She'll probably find more success as a j-pop artist than a pop artist in the U.S. tbh. I had no idea she could speak Japanese though
