1997 movie Soul Food getting a sequel

The studio is planning a sequel called*More Soul Food, based on the 1997 ensemble film.
George Tillman Jr., who wrote and directed the original, is writing the new script with*Nathan Skulnik.*Tillman's State Street Pictures will produce along with*Tracey*and*Babyface Edmonds.*
The original film, starring an ensemble cast that included*Vanessa Williams, Vivica A. Fox, Nia Long, Michael Beach*and*Mekhi Phifer, followed a close-knit African-American family who had a tradition of eating a big dinner together every Sunday. But their bond begins to fall apart after the death of their matriarch.
The film, which earned $43.7 million, also spawned a Showtime TV series,*Soul Food: The Series,*which aired from 2000 through 2004.
The sequel will chronicle the new, millennial generation of the Joseph family. In the age of cell phones and social media, the once-close clan finds themselves disconnected and, without the guidance of the elders who have always held things together, they*struggle to rediscover the importance of tradition and family.
Greg Mooradian*will oversee for Fox 2000.
Tillman's career took off after the success of*Soul Food. His other directing credits include*Men of Honor, Notorious,*The Longest Ride*and episodes of Starz TV series*Power.*He’s also a producer on theBarbershop*film series, including*Barbershop 3,which is now in production. He’s repped by CAA.
Skulnik wrote the Black List script*Lionman of Tuscany*for Fox 2000, and worked with Tillman on an untitled biopic about Miles Davis based on a book by*Gregory Davis.*He’s repped by Paradigm and Kaplan/Perrone,
