I thought Q was questioning for people who are just unsure what they should identify as. If it's Queer then it's not unnecessary because again it works as an umbrella term for people who are unsure what they are or are hesitant for some reason to identify as LGBT so they choose Q

I always thought it was Questioning too
Mess, some sites say it means Queer, some are saying Questioning. I was told it meant Queer.

EDIT: It's still kind of redundant because even if you are questioning you'll either be gay or bi which is already covered, or straight which means you're not a LGBT member.
I mean if you think the acronym is too much you can refer to the community as 'sexual minorities' (though that excludes asexuals ) or 'non-straight people (though that excludes trans ). Omg what can we do

I always assumed it was queer, but questioning makes sense

Those people might identify as that at some stage, but you still go through a questioning phase.
I've always seen it as more of an umbrella term to incorporate people who aren't exactly sure where they stand on their sexuality or gender. I mean, yes most will probably go on to identify as something else in the future (some may even not), but for that period of time they don't know for sure, and that's how I see the term fit. It's for people finding their way. So I don't think it's redundant.
Just refer to it as gender and sexual minorities. "LGBT" is becoming very outdated and unnecessary because in 2015 the LGB have left all the others in the dust and there's simply no reason to group them that way anymore.
It was "queer" in a packet I got as president of GSA from GLSEN. It's for people who identify as "queer" or as a blanket term for everyone not included in LGBT.
Although the terminology is so varied that you could use just about anything in the LGBT+ variations.
