IMO, when you deliberately come out as something it makes what you're coming as seem weird or wrong. Wouldn't it be great if the world could transition in to a time where that isn't necessary?

i don't see it happening. it would be nice to get to a place where being gay/bi didn't matter, but as long as being straight is the default we're going to have to come out

I never really understood why some people have such an issue with the idea of LGBT+ people coming out. For a lot of people it is a major moment in their life, one that influences them positively. It is seen as a brave thing and finally being content with yourself. I think coming out is a beautiful thing.

Trust me, a lot of us would want nothing more than to not have to feel the pressure of coming out but society is not going to just progress overnight and suddenly become a beautiful utopia where everyone is equal.

Coming out or being gay is not "weird" just because it doesn't fit heteronormative standards. Don't ever be afraid to be you.

Sure. When everyone comes out and everyone knows people who are LGBT that'll come. A lot of people are at "ok cool" reactions at this point (it's not an event for many people already.) Knowing someone who is LGBT and out has everything to do with how quickly acceptance of LGBT people has changed. If everyone were to stop "deliberately" coming out, it'd halt that progress, when in some specific groups or regions visibility is still desperately needed.

I already came out at 15 to the people that matter. I'm almost 22 and I honestly, I don't feel the need to "come out" rather than just nonchalantly talk about my relationships with my family. They all already know.

not only that, but not everyone needs to know my sexuality. My Mom's admin for example, or the people I did travel training with. I don't see it as something they desperately need to know.

I'm comfortable with myself that if people want to know, I'll tell them, but I'm not gonna label myself as gay. I want to be described with adjectives, not labels.

Yes because our sexual preference shouldn't matter to anyone but ourselves, so making an event out of it just contradicts the concept of equality.

I hope one day we can aspire to a world where coming out isn't seen as "brave" or "liberating" because it shouldn't be something to feel ashamed about or hide in the first place

I agree! I mean, when I came out it literally felt liberating and like I lifted a huge weight off my shoulder. But really it shouldn't have been like that. No one cares that someone is straight, so why should anyone care that I am gay. However, I think that there will always be some kind of tiny revelation when people reveal themselves as gay.

I did come out, but I already know about kids in my area who don't, and their loved ones know anyway.
