Today at my school there were some people that would not talk at all, as they were showing their respect to the gay community. Someone had been killed at a high school due to the fact that they were gay, so that event prompted the silence today...

I was so touched by this. Such a great way to show respect & a smart one. Gay people have to be silent every day about who they really are, so I thought this was a perfect way to inform the public.

I'm wondering... did this happen all across the US or just in my area?

Me and about 10 other people did it. It was quite humerus to see so many hick in my school give us bad looks. But what can I expect in the town I live in. Hickville USA a.k.a. Kearney.

I live in a really redneck area too & of course they are all homophobic. Luckily, nothing happened that was dangerous to anyone.

Some people had tape over their mouth. It was such a simple way to send a very powerful message

Some kids did it in my school today, including my friend.
Only difference is that you had to pay to be silence.

No, I can't handle not talking for a whole day!

A couple years ago, when I was in high school, about 100 students took part in this. The school handed out special passes for the students to display so teachers wouldn't ask them questions or ask to take parts in discussion. It was nice to see the school also support a cause like this.

We actually have an official Day of Silence at my high school, it's put together by a gay-straight alliance club I think. They sell shirts so that teachers know who's participating and it raises funds for whatever charity. I think it's next week. I'm taking part.
