LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
With the judges having cashed in their save a week ago on Michael Lynche, two contestants were eliminated on Wednesday night’s “American Idol.”
Andrew Garcia and 17-year-old Katie Stevens were the two contestants to get the bad news.
When asked by show host Ryan Seacrest what she’ll remember most about her time on the reality program, Katie said the rest of the “Idols.”
“All the amazing people I met, the amazing experience that this was,” she said, before singing her final swan song, “Let It Be,” as tears welled up in the teen’s eyes.
As for Andrew, he seemed to know he was getting his “Idol” discharge papers, an announcement made at the start of Wednesday’s show, but the 24-year-old from Moreno Valley, Calif., had no regrets.
“Thank you guys, I appreciate everything,” Andrew said after learning the news. “I’m glad I’ve been through what I’ve been through. You guys let me experience something that I’ve never experienced and thank you.”
Andrew added an extra thanks to the fans.
“Love you guys, love you guys,” he said.
Next Tuesday, the remaining eight “Idols” will compete, performing inspirational songs under the mentorship of Alicia Keys. Additionally, on Wednesday, “Idol” will roll out its special, “Idol Gives Back,” hosted by Ryan in Hollywood and Queen Latifah at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
The two-hour fundraising event, packaged with an elimination, hopes to raise money to benefit the Children’s Health Fun, Feeding America, Malaria No More and other charitable organizations.
Among the stars lined up for the special include the Black Eyed Peas, Carrie Underwood, Mary J. Blige and Sir Elton John.
