Video Games: Nintendo names successor to Iwata

Kimishima, 65, currently is head of human resources and also worked for the Pokemon Co., Nintendo said Monday. During his time leading Nintendo of America Inc., he oversaw the introduction of the Wii console and more advanced handheld devices such as the 3DS.

Iwata was the face of Nintendo for 13 years, fronting everything from product announcements to analyst meetings. Iwata, the first president from outside the Yamauchi family since the company was founded in the late 19th century, tripled revenue.

Miyamoto and Takeda will stay with Nintendo, taking the roles of “Creative Fellow” and “Technology Fellow,” respectively.

I wish him luck, Iwata was such a great personable face for Nintendo, so I don't envy him.

He seems more of a business suit than a game designer, so that has me worried. But, apart from that he seems like a good fit, I hope people give him a chance and don't always compare him to Iwata.

Nintendo is a toy maker first and foremost, even though it is a business. I'm concerned about Kimishima, and I would have much preferred Miyamoto as President.

Miyamoto, I believe, didn't want to be president. He's probably getting ready for retirement at this point.

People who want Miyamoto as president are crazy.

Miyamoto is a genius, and a great game maker. But, he is obviously not a business man. He is partly responsible for Nintendo's downfall with his restraint to allow devs to implement online.

Miyamoto is now titled a "creative fellow" as his job role. I don't really thinks he works on games anymore, he just comes in now and then to guide the designers and give them ideas. Aswell as attending business meetings.

Miyamoto is too old and Sakurai would work himself to actual death.

Kimishima seems fine. He's been with them for a while

Miyamoto's pretty intense when it comes to small teams. I don't think he's well fit for whipping down a whole company.

Considering Kimishima's role in HR and past as head of NoA he would be better suited in management.

I would have personally preferred Satoru Shibata as the successor though, I think he leads NoE quite well.
