There are several movies with black people tho? I think they use white people for marketing reasons... in order to make the film more relatable to Europeans (a huge market), they use white people. But still, a lot of movies have black main characters

Black tend to be used in historical films, as a token character or for the those "poor black folk" movies like Precious or Blind Side. Maybe a Tyler Perry movie every now and then too.

I didn't mean to refute her statement I was just sharing a recent movie that was doing something right about the representation of black people in America. I'm not white

Because Hollywood is risk adverse and it has been proven many times in the past that the only people who buy tickets to movies staring black characters are black people, Latino characters Latino people etc, whereas all races buy tickets to movies staring white characters. Plus, white people have been the largest category of movie goers so even if other races didn't go to "white" movies they'd still make the most money. It's not dificult to see why they'd focus on white characters in an industry which is all about money rather than artistry.

Thankfully public opinion seems to be changing and Hollywood is starting to dip it's toe in diversifying with movies like Fast and Furious, Star Wars and Black Panther. It won't be an overnight change though, and if any of those movies flop it'll set the entire movement back.

China proves the point, as soon as it became a massive movie market Asians began to take over Hollywood, most blockbusters these days will have a character who's actor is huge in China or feature scenes set in China. Obviously right now they're still largely side charactes, but the Chinese movie industry is making moves to change that.

Because black movies are one dimensional, they tend to remind everyone about the tragic history and when some filmmaker decides to step out of the line and makes something refreshingly good they don't support it and it flops. As simple as that.
