Halsey's debut album BADLANDS is set to pull in close to 100k in pure album sales this week.
To compare, Lana's debut album Born to Die debuted with 77k albums sold.
How did Halsey manage to outsell Lana in her first week debut album release? Is there more hype surrounding her right now? Did the student surpass the teacher? Is she coming for Lana's queen of alternative throne?
Halsey has some good tracks, but her album is uneven overall. It's strange, because it seems like Lana had more buzz and sales were better back then. The only logical explanation is that tumblr is growing more powerful (which is also evident in other facets of life).
No one cares. Just because more indie Tumblr hipsters decided to buy Halsey's album don't mean anything. Her album won't end up selling 5m WW. Lana wasn't big in US just like in Europe and as far as I know Halsey won't even sell 100k in Europe in the long run
