Why is it that when a gay man is more in touch with his masculine side and is more comfortable with the male gender role, it's automatically dismissed as "self-hating" and putting on an act?
How come there's a hierarchy in the gay community with effeminate men and masculine women on the bottom, being constantly shamed by those who more closely align with gender roles?

That's just not true. Gay men who embrace their masculinity ("straight acting" ) are, if anything, celebrated and drooled for in the gay community. Gay men who have issues with their masculinity/femininity thus post things like "masc4masc" "no fems!" etc are deemed as self-hating (or more accurately, likely having internalized homophobia) which is appropriate.
(and they're often not nearly as masc as they think they are).
I think it's more of the opposite. I hear ignorant people saying being gay is fine but it means you still have to be "a man" and isn't supposed to be fem and sissy here all the time. I honestly wish them the best.

The gay world worships masculinity, as do I, but the second I see a masc guy is hating on femininity or putting himself on a pedestal the attraction is gone.

I've been told that I'm self hating because I'm not really into the whole gay scene.. (Clubs, gay prides, Drag queens) and all that. Also because I'm not Feminine enough, they've told me that it's an act and a cover up. What ever that means.
It's just the way i grew up I guess.. I'm not saying that I'm super masculine because I am not lol.. I also always get confused as a top! It's the most annoying thing in the world. Especially when I tell them.. then they get all mad and stuff and say false advertising lol.
I have a friend at work, she is trans.. She's always telling me that I am not gay enough, that I'm the lamest straightest gay guy ever because I don't dance and I don't "act" like a gay. Also I hate when I tell someone that I'm gay and they automatically ask... So you wanna be a girl?
