With the release of this new EP - Miley has placed music, art & her fans at the forefront.

She has evidently proven what Gaga, Kesha, Beyonce, all seemingly love to brag and theorize about - but haven't actually believed in enough to put into action - "It's all about the music".

She was arguably one of the biggest corporations & brands in the world at one stage, and despite being singed to a major label still - She has put her money literally where all the other pop girls mouths are and just committed to this release. She hasn't made any excuses. Hasn't hid behind any agenda. She's not commented on doing it to further her "indie credibility`" in any way.

A free EP. Based solely on the music she loves to do with no outer influence. With no regards to a larger corporate "branding". With no strings or particular genre boxes she's allowed herself to be placed in. Just a true musical & passion driven experiment she's sharing with the world.

Whether you enjoyed the EP or not - There is no denying it was an admirable, boundary-pushing release. The demo-like productions are so raw & an amazing glimpse into her artistic process.

Truly egoless. Truly daring. Truly for the fans. Truly the music, not the bling.

You don't have to like it, but anyone who fails to appreciate the sonic & vocal experimentation on this album is quite naive.
Some of the productions are crazy - No pop girl would ever dare touch.

I agree but I'm not sure I agree that Gaga and Beyoncé didn't follow through with what they preach. Especially the latter, she literally dropped her album out of nowhere and barely promoted it because she wanted it to speak as one cohesive body of work both musically and visually.

Gaga would do something like this (and she has been talking about doing a free album since 2011 I believe, FYI) but she's too proud and stubborn in terms of having definitive eras where she releases 2 singles before the album and such. She has just grown up loving that I suppose and is afraid it's getting lost.

I actually agree. I wanted Gaga to do this when she was all '**** you pop music, music not the bling!' I really wanted her to release a mixtape on soundcloud last year to back up her claims, but that time has yet to come.

Though I disagree with you including Beyonce. She is actually making impact because of her music.

I don't see this as anything groundbreaking. This is just called a mixtape in the Hip-Hop/R&B world.

I love Miley and all but you would think she created 'Free Music' or 'Mixtapes' with the way people are carrying on

Beyonce's release was no doubt ground-breaking.

But as I recall, they both spoke of wanting major labels to have less influence etc. But neither did what Miley just did. It's literally like a big FU to the corporate world. She didn't ramble on about it - she just DID it.

Besides that, I feel Gaga has struggled to juggle her musical passions effectively - and Bey has an image she needs to uphold. She is feminism. She is black power. She is class. She is sultry. She is woman.

Miley just isn't allowing herself to be boxed. She is truly a free spirit in life & it comes through clearly in this EP.
