In Campeche, Mexico there was a gender-neutral partnership law that banned couples from adopting no matter their sexuality. The Court recently declared that 1. Couples in partnerships have a right to adopt just like married ones 2. Gay or straight, shouldn't matter, rights are rights (as set out by Mexico's constitution where gays are a protected class ). It also made one judge have fake bills thrown at him

Mexico's Supreme Court issued a 9-1 ruling that a Campeche state law barring same-sex couples from adopting is unconstitutional. The court cited children's rights as the basis for its decision. The challenge to the 2013 law was brought by the state's human rights commission.
Presiding Judge Luis Maria Aguila said in the ruling, according to Latin American news network TeleSUR:
"I see no problem for a child to be adopted in a civil union, which has precisely this purpose. Are we going to prefer to have children in the street, which according to statistics exceed 100,000? We attend, of course, and perhaps with the same intensity or more, to the interests of the child."
This doesn't legalize it immediately nationwide like the US way, but it sets a precedent that shows how the Court will rule in future cases. Mexico's is by far one of the most LGBT-friendly Supreme Courts in the world

The naysayers fumes reached a peak when the Chief Justice had fake pesos thrown at him for being "bought by the Gay Lobby" during a public sermon. They are so pressed
this is so odd considering the majority of the country's population does not support gay marriage
All major polls I've seen have it in the 40+% range with one having it as high as 51%.
Right now Mexico is at the Civil Union stage: the majority of Congress who is against gay marriage at least accepts partnerships. "Pass a law and call it anything but just not marriage" thinking.
