Why are some people racists?
What do you honestly think, what caused this? I don't get how someone's skin color matters. Also religion, it is the most irrelevant thing in the world imo and people still fight over it all the time.

The way you grow up. Parents, friends, people around you's opinion. If no one in the world was racist, no newborn could.

Human instinct to feel anxiety around people who aren't from the same group as you.

Conservatives. They're racist, homophobic, sexist, extremist religion-freaks, creationists, don't believe in climate change, don't wanna give money to the poor, don't wanna make education tuition-free, don't wanna believe that people can be transgender and self-identify as something other than how they were biologically born, anti-abortion, pro-wars, pro-death penalty, etc... the list goes on way way longer. Literally everything wrong in the world is caused by them and racism is just another thing that is their fault.

Well centuries ago, white people thought they were superior to everyone else. Parents raised their children with that mentality, etc etc. It's not that hard to understand.

Several hundred years of global white supremacy + pervasive negative stereotypes reinforced by sensationalist media + human tendency to fear/reject people who look or act different from us i guess

Same reason why any type of discrimination exists; people just don't accept differences and they love similarities.

Humans like to have an "other" they can dislike.

Racism (like any other "-ism") is a fantasy that can go away, but won't - ever. It is a fantasy invented by people in order to make perfect sense of their small, closed, useless negative lives and worlds. It can go away, but won't, because to some weak, vulnerable people, racism is a very easily accessible and appealing alternative to actually thinking and caring. Even in these more accepting and sophisticated times, in most places it requires a real effort not to succumb to prejudiced mindsets. Some people aren't willing to challenge themselves to be better, they know they're not strong enough.
