Why has the Major Lazer & DJ Snake song "Lean On (feat. MØ)" not caused a scandal for cultural appropriation? It's in-your-face and blatantly offensive, yet I've never heard a thing about it.
Why is this? Do ATRL gays not care because their Grindr profiles say "No fems, asians or indians - sorry just my preference"? Discuss.
Because the song was inspired by Indian culture, the video was shot in India and Major Lazer made sure they hired indian choreographers/dancers to pay tribute to the culture in a respectful way.
I wondered the same when I saw the video. But whenever other artists do it, its cultural appropriation. People need to stop being so sensitive and chill. It's a music video get over yourselves
I guess it has to do with the fact that Lean On is showing the culture as it is or at least in a non-negative light, as opposed to the 'twerking" scandals (Taylor, Miley) which 'portray black people in a negative light' and Dark Horse, its Egyptian scandal, which was a watered down version of the actual culture.

Literally this. Watch the video without screaming cultural appropriation the first second you can get

Now sis, don't try and brush cultural appropriation under the carpet. It's part of a much larger discussion on racism, and how white people feel entitled to literally anything - while at the same time thinking that foreigners in their country MUST speak Engish, abandon their foreign religions etc.
