Lee Daniels will not disclose any details about Mariah Carey’s role or character on the second season of Fox’s “Empire” — “I’m already in trouble with my publicist” is his quick excuse — but he believes she has definitely earned her place on the hip-hop insider drama as an actress. This is not a case of stunt casting.
“She has certainly proven herself, good lord. Repeatedly,” says Daniels, the co-creator, executive producer and writer of Fox’s biggest scripted hit of the 2014-15 season. “I’m very excited to see where she goes on ‘Empire.’”
They're literally ruining the show by adding all these guest stars. I'm sure a few will fit in with the story but most will be probably unnecessary, like Jennifer Hudson was last year.
This second season is going to flop. The reason the show was such a hit was because we could focus on the characters. All these big names will ruin it.
This Empire "musical celebrity guest schtick" is growing tired. Too many celebrities is gonna take away from the other characters. Soon people will only tune in to see what artist pops up each week.
It's a show about a recording empire. If they didn't have a lot of recording artists, they'd lose touch with the original premise of the show.
But it's a fictional show about a fictional recording empire. Not a realistic one. The point should be that the characters are believable enough that we wouldn't need real musicians. That's what made the show, The Game so great (before BET got hold of it.) The characters were so believable that they didn't need to have real football players every week for it to be believable.
