The 3rd had some of the best episodes ("Anne", "Homecoming", "The Wish", "Bad Girls", "Doppelgangland", "Earshot", "The Prom" & "Graduation Day"). That final scene, in front of the school, with them contemplating the end of an era, was a stroke of genius. Especially when you know all that's going to happen next to Buffy, Willow and Cordelia!
And this score remains the most haunting composition I have ever heard on TV:
PS/ But, really, I love all the seasons, especially the 1st and the 7th. I wrote a 50 pages thesis on the show, for a media course, back in College (tell me, if you want to read it) and I was so impressed that the last episode really resolves issues that were ongoing since the very first episode! That's extremely rare in television.
The only mistep, for me, was the Initiative in season 4 which just didn't fit with the Buffyverse.

I'd give the edge to Season 5; it was a more consistent season with almost every episode being top-notch. Season 2 is also great, but the second half is far superior than the first half.
What Robert did for the 7th season and the last episode goes beyond words. He structured the perfect epic battle music in "Chosen", slowly building before exploding into a symphonical heaven, putting on a twist on war movies' scores!!!
I really love the 7th season, we were many in that case, at the time it aired in 2002/2003, but it seems it underwent a reversed rehabilitation process!
Stand out masterpieces: "Same Time, Same Place", "Selfless","Conversations With Dead People", "Bring On The Night","Get It Done","Dirty Girls", "Empty Places" & "Chosen".
Sarah Michelle Gellar giving us an acting lesson on how to maximize mid-season's tension on "Bring On The Night" (Don't watch if you haven't seen the episodes).
It's either season 3 or 5 for me. Faith was a complex character. I loved and hated her, but felt extremely sorry for her. She was an interesting villain. The mayor doesn't live up to Angelous, but Faith did pick up the slack.
