In an interview Friday, Nicole Flood recounted her daughter’s fear of the man now accused of killing her, but said she didn’t know at the time why the girl was so afraid.

She didn’t know Aquilla had rejected Almuqqadin Means’ invitation to their high school prom or that Means had called her daughter dozens of times in recent weeks, threatening retaliation for rejecting him. Now, she desperately wishes she had known.

On Wednesday morning, Flood found her only daughter dead in her bed, lying in a pool of blood with a single gunshot wound to the head. Her pajama-clad body felt stiff and cold. Blood had already begun to dry on the girl’s arms and face, the mother said.

“She was a bright, bubbly, photogenic girl who wanted to go into fashion. She was going to go to college,” Flood said. “For someone to cut this life short all because she didn’t want to go to the prom with you or take you back — he should have gotten over it.”

Aquilla Flood’s classmates had voted her prom queen, and she was set to graduate from East Orange’s Campus High School next week.

“She was a bright, bubbly, photogenic girl who wanted to go into fashion. She was going to go to college,” Flood said. “For someone to cut this life short all because she didn’t want to go to the prom with you or take you back — he should have gotten over it.”

When Aquilla Flood told her mother Means had a new girlfriend, she thought the troubled boy was out of their lives for good. Her daughter had moved on, too, Flood said.

Aquilla Flood had just started a part-time job at McDonald’s on Route 10 in East Hanover, and she was set to begin classes at Centenary College this fall. Though she’d considered applying to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, she wanted to stay close to home, her mother said.

I recently read a story about a family who stopped on the side of the road to help a teenager who was out of gas or something. They went to go get gas or something to help him and when they came back he shot them because he said he was angry that they took too long. Like.... WTF. They were trying to HELP him!!

Mess at you acting like this is a lone act and not a whole culture of behaviour amongst men. Men feel entitled to women's bodies which is why they get angry when women reject them and say they only want jerks or put them in the 'friend zone'. There are so many cases of men killing or seriously hurting women because of jealousy or because she rejected him. its absolutely a feminist issue, lesbians killing their lovers is far less frequent than men killing their lovers.

Anyway, these cases have already happened before, one dude who couldn't take rejection because he thought that the girl's only option was saying yes.
