Please. Alice was never intended to smash. It's just something she wanted to put out for her fans, but even then many fans don't like it.
Her single will smash. Nobody cares about Alice.

It was put out to promote "Alice In Wonderland" actually.....

Anyways, I'm a bit excited about the new album. "Alice" isn't amazing, but it shows she's moving back into the reality of what fits her.

Avril wrote Alice because she was inspired by the concept of the film. The promotion for the film part is an afterthought.
Follow Me Down is more musical promotion for the film than Alice is. It's the single you get when you pre-order the soundtrack, not Alice.

Uh...I didn't say anything about why it was written. It has still been pushed as the lead single to promote the film/soundtrack. A music video, radio premiere/adds date, and is the song to played at the credits of the film. Also released digitally two days after it's radio premiere, so why would you get "Alice" again when it was released as the single?

"Follow Me Down" leaked just a day or two before "Alice", but isn't anything major. I don't even understand the concept of it being available as a pre-order track when it's on the actual soundtrack, but if you say so. Other than that "Alice" is the single for the soundtrack and film.

I can't wait!

I hope she doesn't include "Alice" on the album and that every song will be 5 times better at least.

It's like how when Rated R was put up for pre-order, the single Russian Roulette was available for cherry picking. Same situation for Follow Me Down.
I don't think Avril, her label, or anyone really seriously expected Alice to make an impact on the chart, but it probably has served its purpose of promo anyways.

Then how come everybody cared about "Keep Holding On" and made it reach the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and were so desperate for Avril to shoot a music video for it...

Because it had mainstream appeal…?

I'm also sure her label didn't expect it to impact, though that has never been my claim. And the Rated R strategy doesn't have to equal this one. This is a film soundtrack, not a studio album. IDK the reasoning for Rihanna's strategy, but I'll take a gander that it was to keep selling the single and album.

But, it stands "Alice" is the main single with "Follow Me Down" & "Tea Party" (by Kerli) have been follow ups. I don't have much else to say since I've proven my point and you just seem to be talking about irrelevant pre-order tracks to a full fledge single. Not feeling like going in circles, especially with you.

The original point in this conversation was you 'correcting' me when I said "Avril recorded it for fans" saying it was "actually" meant to promote the album - but its original status was just a recording that Avril made when she was inspired. I don't really care if it's been picked up as a promotional tool since that recording.
