Honestly. I don't understand the level of outrage. Millions of deer are killed every year, many not eaten. Same applies to many other animals. So why the outrage as soon as it's a lion?

Up until it's death the lion lived a happy life, it was free to roam anywhere in it's ideal habitat. Compare this to the way animals raised for food are raised in our own countries. They live their entire very short lives in the dark, cramped unable to move.

What matters the most when it comes to animals rights is the capacity to suffer. And surely those chickens and pigs suffered more? Where's the outrage? What about deer who are shot as well?

It's all essentially speciesism. "Speciesism involves the assignment of different values, rights, or special consideration to individuals solely on the basis of their species membership."

Before "endangered species!!!11!!" , why is that important as that in no way impacts the suffering of the animal. The lion doesn't feel oppressed or lonely.
The only reason humans want to try an prevent them from extinction is for their own good. They're the only ones who benefit/don't suffer as a result. Yes lions going extinct will probably have some impact on the habitat it lives in but this is all part of a natural cycle.

And btw, i totally agree that the dentist is sick and i think hunting is wrong. I just don't understand how he's worse than someone who hunts deers.

Maybe i could have worded the title better, but i'm asking why the species of an animal matters when it's hunted. Obviously i care...the whole point of this thread. I'm just asking why as soon as its a certain species it causes such outrage?

I'm not saying it's a good thing but why the big outrage? It's so annoying that people who never spoke a word about Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Freddie Gray etc. are acting so disgusted about this

i know how to read. you should learn how to. chickens and deers get killed for meat. lion was killed for his own pleasure. there was no point in killing (and torturing) a lion for no reason. its like paying a hitman to kill an innocent person.

i think it's because chickens and pigs are actually being killed for food unlike when you kill an already potentially endangered specie just for fun and as a recreational activity.

I understand what you're saying, it's inconsistent logic for sure. Chickens, cows, and especially pigs are smart, bright animals with self-awareness and the capacity to feel.

But ultimately, endangered species do matter. They are still creatures of the earth, beautiful ones at that. They shouldn't be destroyed. They should be protected and nurtured so that their numbers get higher. That is a good enough point in and of itself IMO.

because the specific lion is a protected and endangered animal compared to chickens and pigs that's why it had a gps installed in order to monitor it's activities and breeding etcetc.. with the decreasing numbers of these specific animals there's a higher chance of them being extinct in the near future

As for the second part i agree, i just think imo people should be more disgusted by chickens and pigs raised in such horrible conditions. In no way am i justifying the hunter, i just think when these animals suffer so much more, no one gives a ****. But this lion lived such a better life but when killed there was such outrage. I was just pointing out how there should be such outrage for chickens cows etc as well.
