Have you actually read Alias, the source material Marvel is basing Jessica Jone on? It is amazing and a huge fan favorite . None of the characters are "boring" in the slightest, they are all fairly well known by comic readers and enjoyed.
Of course Marvel isn't picking characters as big as say Spiderman for Netflix but all of the announced ones are still fairly popular in their own right. Also, Daredevil is one of the best things Marvel has ever put out on film or television.
