As a noun, a “trigger” is something (like a picture or text post) that elicits panic/anxiety attacks or flashbacks among survivors of violence/rape/abuse. As a verb, to “trigger” is to provoke that response (“that photo triggered me,” for example). Essentially, when someone is triggered they feel as though they are responding to a traumatic event from their past, not to the present trigger.
I've noticed even more people doing this now, on places like Twitter and Facebook - not just Tumblr.
Some of the tags I commonly see:
/food
/bugs
/self-harm
/fire
/rape
/violence
etc.
do you use the TW system to tag posts on any form of social media?
I completely understand them tbh but I'm not going out if my way to put tags in my posts (I've only had people ask me to do it on tumblr)
If you don't like it then by all means don't follow me. I love my followers so much but it becomes annoying when I have to check certain profiles to make sure I correctly tag posts so they don't see them
No, and these people have made a mockery out of REAL issues like rape, death of a loved one, and other traumatizing events that leave severe consequences on an individual. Deep-rooted psychological issues that can be triggered by smell or any of the other 5 senses. So no, i think it's an attention seeking crap and I detest people like that.

Yeah I was shocked over the weekend because I tweeted a picture at dinner and somebody got really offended that I didn't post /food which is ~a trigger warning for eating disorders
I have so much sympathy for anyone going through that (I have myself) but I feel like its a bit much to have to post a tw if I say I want to have a sandwich or if I post a picture of a bonfire etc.

See that's what I'm talking about. I'm sure you respect that person as I do my followers (or friends if using other social media platforms) but like tagging /food is kinda over the top. It's annoying to do and every individual is different so every trigger will be different and it's just hard to keep up with trying to tag them all. If you miss one by an honest human mistake you will get heat from the affected people and it's like

To each their own, but I'm not about to tag my post with #tw:Food because some random person who follows me has something against it. Not like the loss in follower is damaging
What is a picture going trigger anyways? An anxiety attack? A psychotic episode? That seems like a bigger issue. If you see commercial on TV for pizza, and that's triggering you, get some help.
I only need a trigger warning for ONE thing and I'm not gonna say what it is but even if people didn't tag it as a trigger, it's not going to **** up my day or my life and I will get over it. I think people need to toughen up a bit and stop expecting strangers to coddle them.
