Depends on who you ask.
Me personally, I'm in a wait and see mood about this.
On one hand, I do appreciate their efforts to try to get at risk teenagers and young adults into the workforce, and away from the gangs, guns, and crime our in the streets. When you consider their benefits package, which include REALLY good healthcare coverage and Free education courtesy of Arizona State University; It could provide someone with a gateway out of poverty. However, even with all the good they intend to do, another part of me wonders if it will be successful. Put simply, a low income minority (especially one with a family they have to support) is NOT necessarily the type of person that would go into a Starbucks and pay $4 for a cup of coffee.I honestly think Starbucks needs to tailor the prices and the drinks to the stores they do plan to open here.Either lower prices on drinks/baked goods overall or drop the high priced items and carry a smaller menu with the basics.
I do want them to succeed with this, but I am also aware of some of the issues they may face going forward.
Some are critical of Starbucks because it came off the heels of a failed campaign to spark conversation on racial issues.
