Being relevant has nothing to do with quality. Cody Simpson is a way better artist than Justin Bieber will ever be. Yes, Justin Bieber has catchier hits [most of the time], but Cody Simpson is a real artist who writes and produces his own music with his guitar and what not. His voice is raw vocals too, while Bieber probably needs auto-tune here and there.

That is just a personal opinion. Just like how I am about to state, Shawn Mendes is the worst album of the year, while although it's praised and worshipped by most stans here. It's boring, no upbeat songs and his voice gets annoying after a while [too high pitched and whiny].
Secondly, Cody made this album for himself and his fans, not for money. His music is influenced by John Mayer and Bob Marley I've listened to half the album already and it's good. Probably his best work. It Don't Matter & Happy Lil' Hippie are already classics, some of his best work to date.
Just because the acoustic/folk/jazz/blues/pop genre doesn't flow with you, doesn't mean it's necessarily a bad album for someone else. I'm sure by the time I'm through with it, it'll be one of the best albums of the year. So move over --->
