In terms of mainstream success she did. She had everything going for her thanks to Y&B, the SS remix and long term success of BTD. But Lana decided to go for a much more darker route and whilst her core fanbase loved UV, the casuals lost interest in her. Idk if she can recover from it tbh.
The conditions required so you can make it look successful though...
Going from 6M to 1,2M is nothing good.
But she still got her #1 album anyway in the US, AUS, UK, Canada. Plus she went from 6M to that because she basically didnt do promo on Europe which was her biggest market. In 2011-2012 she performed on almost every big Europe program. Plus the album was a lot more difficult to listen to by casual fans even fans.
No not really. She did quite well without any form of promo and managed to make it to #1 and be among the best selling female albums of the whole year.
And she went in an entirely new direction with this album sonically. She musically delivered and she did well with sales.
I don't remember her doing a single major promo spot in the U.S., I never heard any of the singles on the radio, etc. and she still went Gold. For a non-commercial artist, that's more "blockbuster" than it is "slump."

Slightly but not really. The album was much better critically received (although BTD was also on a lot of Best List as well). It sold a good amount considering her huge shift in sound as well as her not doing any promo.
