People often associate atheism with immorality; they believe that it isn't possible to have good morals without religion. Aheists have been consistently shown to be perceived as untrustworthy as well. There's a much longer explanation, but I'm on mobile and that's the gist of it.

Well, good. I'd personally trust an atheist over someone pious (in some circumstances) because atheists can't use a religion to manipulate people

Too much of an "outside" thing I guess. Plus there are those who oppose it on an economic basis (in Northern Europe for example they have a lot of free things, but the whole population is taxed over half their income).
