Discussion: Shake It Off's the longest lasting #1 debut of alltime. Why?

As of this week, Taylor Swift's Shake It Off drops 38-39 on the Hot 100 in its 43rd week, becoming the longest-lasting number-one debut on the Hot 100 - surpassing Elton's John's Candle In The Wind (42 weeks). As much as ATRL wrote this off as a nonevent, non-factor song, it's managed to stick around longer than any number-one debut in the Hot 100 history, including songs that are claimed to be impactful and iconic.

Why is this the case?

The new Hot 100 format actually penalises Taylor's chart positions, as streaming helps a song's longevity and Taylor is not on Spotify, unlike a lot of the other tracks that it is competing against on the chart. Makes SIO's longevity even more impressive.
