Don't get me wrong, Taylor makes cute music but I don't think anyone would say she's particularly the best singer, dancer, performer. She's a good songwriter, but her songs aren't particularly groundbreaking.

Is it because she's appeals to a wider demo or something? I would think girls like Katy and Ariana would appeal to the same wide demo too, so why is Taylor the only exception to the current tragic state of the industry?

Since Red was released, she opened such a bigger demographic for herself. Everyone from the indie crowd to the housewives listen to her.

She's a genuine person, makes great music, and is perfect at promoting. Plus she has a huge amount of freedom in comparison to some of her peers. She started as a country artist with kinda of a narrow fan base and made a extremely smooth transition to pop to gain the huge audience she has now. And her performance skills have massively improved.

She is a smart businesswoman. Her music ain't pushing any boundaries, avoids controversy (besides this Katy feud nobody really cares about), and her transition to pop happend gradually over the years.

Her music may be bland, but the production is never cheap and her lyrics are never trashy. Her videos are also well-executed.

All in all, she cares to stay at the top and she is not willing to go anywhere but up in terms of sales and impact.

People drag her for 'doing the same thing' with every album but her doing exactly the opposite is why she's been able to stay relevant.

Her team puts every other popstar's team to shame to the point that it's scary, her music and image are sickeningly inoffensive + she started off with a loyal country album-buying fanbase who she has pandered to for a decade

Authenticity. She's very honest and direct with her lyrics which makes her music very relatable. I still can't over how up front she was about her flaws in Blank Space, I've always been a somewhat fan but 1989 made me fall in love with her!

Her relatability is her number one most important thing when it comes to her success. Being able to have millions of teenage girls be able to relate to her music helps her keep a solid fanbase. You know when you hear people say things like "omg this taylor song is like a page out of my diary how does she know exactly how it feels!!" that's what fuels her success.
