What we use to know if a song is popular enough in Brazil is measuring it's airplay by Jovem Pan hitparade, Jovem Pan is the biggest radio station in the country (it's played almost nation-wide) and fits the pop format.

Yes, they don't put out the information, but some people leak the charts and everything. And Crowley only counts songs from 9:00 to 19:00 if i'm not mistaken.
