Simon Cowell Wants Mariah's ex-husband for X-Factor
Simon Cowell is hoping to sit alongside Mariah Carey's ex-husband Tommy Mottola when he launches his British talent show "The X Factor" in the U.S.
The tough-talking music mogul quit his role as a judge on American Idol this week to concentrate on taking his U.K. singing contest stateside.
And he already has several stars in mind to join him on the show's judging panel - including Mottola, Paula Abdul, and British singer Cheryl Cole.
Cowell tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "On X Factor, you get to mentor the artists, so you have more of a role. It's frustrating sometimes when you sit there and you haven't been able to change their songs, or how they perform, or what they wear...It's pointless hiring judges who don't know anything about the music business. I'll probably go and find someone who did what I did for a living. I was an A&R guy for 20 years. I thought Tommy Mottola would be a good choice. He was the guy who was the head of Sony - he guided Mariah - very flamboyant, knows what he's talking about."
Cowell admits he is also lining up two other experts he has worked with before - Abdul had a judging role on "American Idol," and Cole currently mentors acts on "The X Factor."
He adds, "I've been talking to Paula for a long time. It was always my intention in one way or another to carry on working with her... I think (Cheryl) would be great over here - Cheryl's a star."
Cheryl
She's won every year she has been on the XF UK so far, I so want her to do the US version too. They need someone with style, youth, a singer and someone who has been through the talent show process
Plus if it's gonna be Simon, Tommy and Paula.. I definitely want someone under 40 atleast on the panel
^
Yup. i think all of the judges, Cheryl fits quite well on the panel coz like you said, we went through the whole thing 7 years ago. And America is gonna love her. She's definitely one to watch.
If it were up to me, it would be Simon, Clive Davis, Tommy Mottola, and Mathew Knowles.
That would never work
People don't realise that the XF is heavily focused on the judges as well as the contestants. People (majority I would assume anyways) wouldn't want to watch four old men sitting at a desk for entertainment

Yes, Cheryl is like the main reason I watch X-Factor

That's why there are so many flop new acts because old men at the label THINK the public will like them!
Tommy Mottola would be PERFECT!!! I would love to see him make new stars like he did Mariah and J.Lo. Clive Davis is great and iconic but way too old. He's only good to come in around finals to cut the fat. I really hope Paula doesn't come back, sorry but I really do not like her at all. Just an airhead hasbeen. Donna Summers or some legend with vocal talent should be on it.
4 ageing men on the judging panel. You hav gotta be kidding me. With something new in the US television that is the X Factor, we need at least someone new on the judging panel and that is Cheryl Cole. People will start to google about her when the series aired and they will finally understand what makes X Factor UK such a big hit in recent years. The answer is Cheryl because she's worth it.
