This term also happened in music. when the artist's second album fail to give as much impression as the debut album

I think I like parts of Smoke & Mirrors more than Night Visions. Sure there isn't a song as great as Radioactive, but there really isn't anything as bad as On Top of The World either.

I think the problem with the Sophomore albums is that artists usually are making their sound more consistent and smoother. The sophomore albums usually don't have as many stand out tracks (good or bad) and usually suffer because of that. Also, the sophomore albums usually are delivered after more intense time restraints.

As far as sophomore jinxes/slumps go...

I'm thinking Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and Major Lazer's second album (Free the Universe)

Basically every X Factor act not named 1D, Olly, Little Mix or Leona.

Cher's second album flopped, Rebecca's second album flopped, Union J's album flopped, JLS never broke out.
The list goes on.

Basically sophomore slumps happen when an act or their label thinks that they can replicate the success of the first album typically by completely copying everything that made the first album a success. The problem is acts need to evolve and grow either on a personal level through new inspirations or influences or in the case of pop acts flow with the current trends in order to stay relevant.

Fans like to see progression above anything else. Simply replicating an album smacks of lack of originality and fans don't appreciate it.

maybe i am not attracted as a whole album S+M, some songs like shot and gold are nice. but not Radioactive, Demons or even Amsterdam level imo. just not outstanding compared to their debut album

yeah agree, i don't know what happened with this x factor jinx, and some of the American Idol alumn too
