this isn't really shade though. all he's saying is that iggy is big right now but he's not sure if she will last long enough to be considered a 'queen of today's pop music'

Yes, but he's saying that back in the day you didn't need all of that. You just needed really good songs, he used Donna as an example because he personally worked with her.
