Like my mum said something like this and I'm literally fuming so hard because I honestly thought that her being both quite educated and intelligent would be over this way of thinking. It's like why don't straights realise that we're not actually going to have sex in front of them, it's so hypocritical. I would rather someone to act homophobic to my face and insult me than trying to sugarcoat their homophobia like this.
She also said that agressive promotion of gay 'image' (whatever she meant by that) goes against traditional patriarchal values and corupts young peoples minds, and then I started laughing because like for more than half of my life now my parents are divorced and was like are you aware how ironic you sound?

Sorry if this seemed like a rant but up until today I thought this was the perfect time for me to come out to her (I'm 21) because I'm on the verge of having a true relationship but this just made me back into reconsidering it.

Yes, I can relate with my mom. She always brings up religion and said gay people aren't "born the way they are" and that "it is a choice" after I tried informing her that it isn't something you choose. It made me angry. So over homophobic people... I'm on the verge of coming out. I don't feel like hiding it anymore.

Yes. Pure ignorance. There is so much homophobic attitudes that the owners don't even realize are homophobic. It's frustrating and gross. If you're not homophobic, then you will treat gay people as you treat anybody else. You can't nit-pick, you hide your homophobic intentions behind smoke screens like "I'm cool with gay people but...".

What really gets under my skin is when someone tries to justify their political incorrectness with 'Oh, but my brother/friend/cousin/uncle/grandmother's kitten's old owner is gay!' As if that stands for anything.

Conclusion: I don't mind people being anti-PDA if they're consistent.

Yeah specially when they say "I have nothing against gays but in order to get respect you need to give respect" most gays I know are very polite and respectful.. kinda off but one of my ex coworkers posted on facebook that all black ppl, gays and fat ppl should be put in a plastic bag and then be thrown in the trash, I reported his post and blocked him but then I received a msg basically saying that there's nothing wrong with his post..

Hm I do feel as if a lot of people I've heard talk about homosexuals/lesbians always seem to add a "but" of some sort. Is it really that hard to just say you support it, if you supposedly do.
