Columbus' voyage paved the way for the settlement of the New World by Europeans. And navigating over 3,000 miles of open ocean is very impressive by itself.

Yet every Columbus Day, I see people on the internet talking trash about him. Even calling for the day to be cancelled.

Because he began a cycle of rape and pillaging of new continents which decimated great cultures and destroyed cultural links all for selfish greed. He was greeted with kindness and he saw nothing but opportunity. This encounter was a literal death sentence for many.
