Emma Stone, a blonde haired, blue eyed WHITE WOMAN, was chosen to portray an ASIAN-HAWAIIAN PERSON with a Chinese last name. I don't approve of whitewashing, especially when Asian characters get swapped with white ones (see: Ghost in the Shell), but this is a new level of lazy ********. How can you go 80% of the way, write a script ABOUT AN ASIAN PERSON but not cast an Asian actress? That's like making a movie about the Jackson 5 set in the 1960s but casting Honey Boo Boo as Tito and a ham sandwich as Michael -- did you even try, bro?

If a character is supposed to be a certain race, then the actor portraying them should also be that race. I don't understand what is so difficult to understand about this. If they don't want non-white people in their movies than why even pick up a script that has non-white characters in it

Disgusting. Sick of all the white worship. Literally get anything handed to you, while others have to work. Even for a role that should've went to an Asian they still choose a white person, but God forbid a poc gets cast in a role.

But they are wrong Goku couldn't be portrayed by an Asian because he was from another planet, he wasn't from Japan he was sent from the planet Vegita.

So he couldn't be portrayed by an Asian, but it was perfectly fine to portray him by a Caucasian?

Y'all tried the same argument with The Last Airbender. Just because it's a fantasy world, doesn't mean the characters weren't designed with a certain minority race in mind, and doesn't make it okay to wash the live action cast versions with White faces. Doesn't make it okay at all.

The industry whitewashing is scary. The industry only gives major roles to minorities if it fits the negative stereotype. Otherwise, their roles go to white thespians. People really refuse to believe that racism is still loud.

So, in the movie, Stone's character's father is Hapa (white/Chinese) and her mother is presumably white/Swedish descent. Hailee Steinfeld or Vanessa Hudgens would have been more believable from an ethnic perspective. I hear Miranda Cosgrove is vaguely Asian.
