Scientists Discover Evolutionary Advantage For Homosexuality
Quote:
It’s an evolutionary paradox that’s frustratingly difficult for biologists to explain, but researchers may have just found a benefit conferred by homosexual sex that could offer an explanation as to why this behavior has persevered, at least in one species. According to a new study in fruit flies, not only does same-sex sexual behavior seem to be heritable, but females with a genetic makeup associated with this trait actually display higher reproductive rates, which is an evolutionary advantage. These fascinating findings have been published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
I've always thought this. The gay "gene" must obviously be carried by females, even heterosexual ones and it makes a lot of sense.
Even if recessive, females pass this gene on, thus creating gay sons.
If there is a gay gene it can be turned off. Thus there technically could be a 'cure' for those that don't want to be gay. This mutation is something nature would not want to be expressed in everyone so it probably is recessive. If it exists.
If females are genetically predisposed to like the same sex, then how is having a higher reproductive rate relevant? They're not having sex that will lead to reproduction. Maybe I read this wrong or I'm not understanding something.
fruit flies and the gays, where's the correlation?
Every living organism on this planet has a genetic code. This study reveals preliminary evidence that homosexuality may be genetically passed on in most if not all species. Hence, we may one day find proof that we are "born this way."

Just because you have the gene doesn't mean it's expressed. Think back to the concepts of dominant and recessive alleles.
