The Song of the Year is one of the four most prestigious awards in the Grammy Awards ceremony, if not in all of the American music industry. It has been awarded since 1959 to the composer (not the performer) of the song in question. It is almost always the case that one or more recordings are nominated for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year, and one recording may be awarded both awards. Years reflect the year in which the Grammy Awards were handed out, for music released in the previous year. Unlike Record of the Year, which goes to the performer and production team of a single song, Song of the Year goes to the composer(s) of the song.
Front Runner: Kings Of Leon
Once again, this band get a general field nomination... Which is a huge reward already. The fact that they are nominated in ROTY is definitely a plus for them. They had a great year and this is their first time in this category. If I had to guess I would say they might take it.
Runner Up: Beyonce
Im not sure if her 10 Grammy's will hurt her or help her. She has so many already that they might find a hard time giving her even more at such a young age. Now that said, this was one of the biggest songs of the year. And made more if an impact than anything has made since Thriller in pop culture. Some say well the song isnt that good the video carried it. That doesnt matter they go hand and hand. Its also her first nomination here...she might just take this.
Best Chance: Maxwell
He fits in this category like a lost puppy to a pound. his song is perfect for the win and he is established. The song was also very successful on R&B and adult stations. his downfall would be the face that he isnt nominated for Record Of The Year. Usually the winner here runs away with both awards.
ForTheStans: Lady Gaga
I just dont see it happening. A fast song has never won here and I highly doubt she will be the first one to do it. But I never say never!
MiraclesDoHappen: Taylor Swift
She does not deserve it at all for that crappy teenage song... But she might pull the biggest upset ever and win!
