After the slasher genre was dead in the mid 90's Scream completely brought it back and more followed after that. Now all the horror films that are coming out are remakes and found footage films/supernatural. Is this generation able to have another classic like Scream or at least a slasher that can revive the genre?
Scream Queens is kind of slasher. I think it's paying homage to the slasher genre from the 80's.
Yes it's a slasher but on a television network. I just think there's still so many original ideas for a slasher film but most distributors and film companies won't take a chance in it anymore cause they don't sell as much as they used too.
Didn't Saw kind of turn slasher films into more of a gore/torture fest?
I thought Scre4m would do it but nope. I hope it does get a revival though. I LOVE slasher movies.
Yeah i think everyone did. Scream 4 was a really fun film and You're Next followed after that but got a limited release. See No Evil 2 was the most recent slasher i can think of but turned out to be too hyped and wasn't very good. Plus being DTV didn't help.

I hope not. Slashers are terrible films, and they got tired very fast.
I think some slasher films were terrible in the 90's cause it was just like the 80's and 70's. Film after film basically recycling the same cliche moments. But the original ones currently don't get theatrical releases and it's disappointing.
They need twists and less of a reliance on generic conventions.
Aside from having an unbelievable heroine and cliche bits in the film the cinematography and music were the high points of the movie and for that i enjoy it for what it is.
Hopefully, and I hope it won't be in the form of a remake/reboot of a slasher series.
This thread just makes me want to have another Halloween marathon.
They are still going through with that I Know remake so hopefully that won't happen. It's the first slasher remake in a while. And do it! If you don't have it already you should invest in the Halloween box set. It's great!

I had the Halloween blu-ray box set as soon as it came out.
