Not impossible, just extremely hard. So hard that few earthquakes will be predicted with current technology.

as long as the movie has A LOT of over the top destruction scenes, I will be in love with it

you can. just not day and minute correctly. the time frame would be in days, or weeks.
that's why scientists always KNOW there will be an earthquake, but when the media reports about that, uneducated people think they're just ******** because eventually they think earthquake prediction would be like weather forecast and it sucks because the authorities can't prepare or evacuate in time without an exact prediction

Why go see San Andreas the movie when you can grab some popcorn and sit on the other side and watch it IRL.

Anyway the San Andreas isn't long enough or deep enough to create an earthquake much above 8.0 and there is the fact it's a slip strike fault moving horizontal so there is no huge drop, no tsunami. An 8.0-8.3 earthquake would do a lot of damage but not like in this movie. A 9.x would be catastrophic but it just can't happen those are the ones that happen deep in the Ocean.

It doesn't mean it won't be entertaining to watch California get destroyed.

If you don't understand the mechanics of the San Andreas and what it means to be a horizontal slip strike fault in a few million years, assuming we are still here, people living in San Francisco will wake up, look out their windows and see the LA skyline.
