What are your thoughts on zedd's new record? I think it's legit good. If he gave Gaga done with love it would've smashed

If I look at it as a collection of singles with no relation to each other, it's good. However, he needs to diversify his sound, a la Calvin Harris, Diplo. Read Pitchfork's review to get a better feel of what I'm talking about, although they were a bit too harsh.

I read the pitchfork interview and honestly I thought they were way too harsh. Maybe it's just me but all of Calvin Harris' music sounds the same. Where is his diversity?

I love the song he did with Troye Sivan.

Ultimately the two standout songs on his album (Daisy and Papercut) are REALLY good, while the rest range from mediocre to good (my opinions are subject to change as I listen to the album more though, lol).

I feel with this album he clung too tightly to the idea of making hit/radio friendly songs. Clarity had more tracks with unique, evocative melodies that were delivered with an array of interesting sounds (Codec, Shave It Up) and I'm not hearing those moments as frequently on True Colors.

Beautiful Now, sadly, I feel is the worst song Zedd has been associated with. The chanting in the chorus reminds me of a really bad RedOne track from 2012.

Haven't listened to the other songs yet though, except I Want You To Know which is a bop.

that pitchfork review is biased trash.

Addicted to a Memory has familiar pop constructions? The ignorance, stating his use of female vocals over soaring synths like it's Zedd's signature thing and not the structure for almost all edm songs. Not to mention the comparisons to Porter and Madeon, stating that their projects are "mass-audience focused".... the reviewer clearly doesn't have a good grasp of the electronic music landscape, nor Zedd's spot in said landscape.

While True Colors isn't a terrific album, it certainly isn't a bad one. Zedd is still relatively new to mass popularity, he's young, and I feel, musically speaking, like he's still trying to figure out where he fits in to it all.

Spin and Complex's reviews are much better.
