Vegas: "It's going to be the best JLo show you’ve ever seen"
Quote:
Global superstar singer, actress and dancer Jennifer Lopez says “the sky’s the limit” when it comes to creating her new residency at Axis at Planet Hollywood that begins Jan. 20. In an exclusive one-on-one interview, J.Lo told me that she’ll do 40 shows a year for the next two years on the Strip.
“Everything I’ve ever done has led to this. I’ve spent my entire life waiting for this moment to create my own show,” she said excitedly.
J.Lo says work on the setlist and music is only days away. She said that she’ll officially start the project June 1:
“By July, we will have started to conceptualize the show. By August, we’ll start work on the costumes, and rehearsals will begin late September or early October. It’s going to go very fast, although it may seem a long time out.
“By late October or early November, I will move to Las Vegas so we can start working in the Axis theater. For now, I’m going to play it by ear about finding a home there or staying in a hotel.
“I realize that I have parental responsibilities with the twins, and they are the most important in my life, so the decision will really circle around them. It’s been hard when you’re out on tour, so this is a nice way to cut back and still do lots of shows for the fans.
“It’s going to be the best J.Lo show you’ve ever seen and heard. It will be with all my hits. We have a lot of different things to try to do on that stage. There’s so much there in Las Vegas.
“I’ve joked that maybe I’ll do some magic and disappear or even swim better than the Cirque performers. Think of it as one super party you’ve wanted to go to your entire life.”
It’s her first-ever headline residency, and she promises a mix of pop, R&B and fan favorites matched with her fierce talents and megawatt star power. It is an amalgam of Hollywood glamour, rock star persona and Puerto Rican heritage coming to life onstage nightly.
J.Lo promises ballads, Latin music, funk with a live band, dancers and extravagant costumes with state-of-the-art sets, lighting and effects. If her see-through sparkling gown at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday is any indication, it also is going to be a fashion extravaganza.
“I’m just going to heighten the experience so that everybody has a good time. There’s a lot of new technology that we’ll look at to fit the personality and concept of the show. I’m going to sit with the creative team and keep asking what new thing can we bring to the stage.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am about this Las Vegas residency. The only thing that worries me is that I love all the great restaurants and shopping on the Strip. So I’m going to have to be very careful not to eat too much or to shop too much. That’s the only problem I think I’ll have!”
J.Lo explained that she will have wrapped episodes of her new TV series “Shades of Blue” in time to start the onslaught of her new entertainment show. “Then we have the new, final 15th season of ‘American Idol.’ That will involve commuting back and forth between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. But I don’t think about what that involves. I’ll just do it, and we’ll get both done perfectly.”
Tickets for the Jennifer Lopez live concert experience with a glamorous flair at Axis at Planet Hollywood, home to Britney Spears’ “Britney: Piece of Me,” are now on sale for her first set of shows starting Jan. 20 through Feb. 9 and May 22 through June 12, 2016.
