I shot this at the Palms Casino over 2 days. We used one of its conference rooms to stage a couple built sets - the feast, the opening - but everything else was on location. Katy didn't want a typical model type boyfriend in the video, she wanted quirky. So we cast Joel David Moore. One of the cool things was talking magic with Teller - he was super into talking about his craft and as a magic aficionado I geeked. I explained to him how I was going to reverse a shot he was in at the end and he knew the methodology and completed the thought before I could finish it. Super cool. I found Katy to be an extraordinarily hard worker and very sweet - this video had a grueling, long schedule and she toughed it out. She has a really unique presence on screen - a little bit of old school movie star glamour. She could have been a big comedy actress in the 1940's working with Capra like Barbara Stanwyck. The video went on to win MVPA's 2009 Video of the Year and I was invited to make a speech there about my career. But when it was time for me to make the speech, everyone at the MVPA left to socialize. Thank you MVPA for humiliating me.
