Single father who got custody of daughter beat her to death

A 'sadistic' father who murdered his four year-old daughter just weeks after winning custody of her to boost his benefits has been jailed for life. Carl Wheatley, 31, had battered Alexa-Marie Quinn over ten days before she died last March.
The father-of-four had boasted to a work colleague he would get a two-bedroom house and £1,700 in benefits if he won custody of his child, the court heard. The judge said Wheatley's 'final and fatal' attack on his daughter could only be described as 'relentless and sadistic and to a horrifying degree.'
Wheatley claimed he called 999 two minutes after she stopped breathing but the court heard that she could have been dead for hours.
At his trial, Wheatley admitted killing his daughter but denied it was murder. However a jury dismissed his plea to manslaughter by reasons of diminished responsibility and found the supermarket worker guilty of murder.
Prosecutor Christopher Donnellan QC said during the case: 'In the weeks before she died when he hit her he hit her hard and he hit her more and more.
this is so sad, I can only imagine the poor child... imagine you are stuck in a house with your parent who for some unknown reason starts beating you to death these are case when I wonder if God exists
