That's terrific for both. I never though MM would debut with more than $40 million, and the first Pitch Perfect grossed $65 million domestically total.

Pitch Perfect is less surprising.

It did amazing in DVD sales - I believe T10 of all releases from its year.

Pitch Perfect deserves everything good. The second part is amazing and better than the 1st imo. Can't stop listening to the soundtrack.

Hoping that Pitch Perfect can take it

I look at box office and movie review stats like, every week, and have been doing it for years. It's amazing to see how many people on Box Office Mojo/Rotten Tomatoes/IMDB just bash the hell out of PP and hope it flops just because it's not their style. Mad Max has had amazing critical reception but it just isn't my type of movie and I'm not interested in it, while I'm going to see Pitch Perfect 2 tomorrow, but both movies deserve to do well (and they will.) Also, a big reason on why I want PP2 to steal the weekend crown is to see all the fanboys fume even more.

Yeah, but it'll still pretty impressive that it's final gross domestically will be 100%+ than the original. I can't think of a sequel growing that much, not even New Moon did that. (Well opening it did)

Coldplay has a way bigger growth with Parachutes - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2K to 141K)

Well, 552k is way bigger than 139k.
Britney probably went up like a thousand percent too and with a substantial actual number.

Even if action movies are not your thing, go see it for the badass Charlize as Furiosa. And if you've never seen a real action movie where they use practical effects and stunts because everybody now uses CGI, go see this too.

This is so AWESOME! So happy both films are slaying at the box office. Pitch Perfect 2 already about to outgross the original in one weekend. Mad Max being R-rated and still pulling in these numbers with such a great response! Word-of-mouth is going to give it so much lasting life!

I just say they did 27 million on Friday. Wow just wow.
