Norwegian Researchers: LSD is a human right
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/05/wo...man-right.html

OSLO — In a country so wary of drug abuse that it limits the sale of aspirin, Pal-Orjan Johansen, a Norwegian researcher, is pushing what would seem a doomed cause: the rehabilitation of LSD.
It matters little to him that the psychedelic drug has been banned here and around the world for more than 40 years. Mr. Johansen pitches his effort not as a throwback to the hippie hedonism of the 1960s, but as a battle for human rights and good health.
. . .
“We are not in the 1960s anymore and have moved on,” said Mr. Johansen, a clinical psychologist, adding, “This is a question of basic human rights.”
...
Mr. Johansen said the dangers connected with psychedelic drugs had been exaggerated by stories that did not take into account probability. “Everything carries a risk. If you walk in a forest, a tree may fall on your head, but does this mean you should never go in the woods?”
Dr. Madsen, of the Norwegian Medicines Agency, conceded that there “are a lot of myths” about psychedelic drugs like claims that “if you use LSD, you will jump from the roof.”
All the same, he sees no quick way around a thicket of laws and strict regulations on their use. “Everyone sees we have to be very careful with these drugs,” he said. “I don’t think the time is ripe.”

This is just one article of many that have been published in the last year pushing for the legalization of LSD and other psychedelics for medicinal purposes. It's been known since the 60's that such drugs have a large potential for treatments for depression, addiction, OCD and PTSD, but research is only just restarting now since the drugs were scheduled.
What do you think? Are psychedelics the new marijuana? Or is the backlash too real and this will not amount to anything?

I don't think there will ever be a time when drugs are accepted and used responsibly by everyone. The risks outweigh the pros

I think you're right, but I think people are also frustrated at the nonsensical drug scheduling. I mean the receipts and the law are almost polar opposites:

Yup I have heard this from a lot of people. Some hallucinogens are capable of producing long-lasting remissions of sufferers with mood and anxiety disorders.

The reason why LSD, DMT, Weed and other psychedelc substances are illegal is because they make people think. Thinking is harmful to government system, they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong. Your mind is unconcously controlled by the culture order which is created by our government like TV, school, education system, media ect ect.

I hate people who do these hallucinogenic drugs. They act like they are so enlightened but as soon as they face some harsh reality in life they get so messy.
Source: I work with college/high school people and they are dropping acid and think they are buddha.

bingo. that's why LSD, weed, DMT and other hallucinogenic or euphoric drugs are regulated to 'schedule 1' (DEA definition of being the most dangerous / likely for abuse) and drugs like xanax, cocaine, oxycontin are 'schedule 2' or lower
in other news: acid is great and everyone should do it at least once in their life. it does your mind / life some good to step out of your present consciousness / reality

Maybe drugs should be allowed but it's certainly not a human right

LSD is actually nontoxic, nonaddictive and is not known to cause any sort of physical harm. There are no known deaths caused solely by ingestion and, as long as no preexisting mental conditions exist, its safety profile is unmatched by most drugs.
I think there is a lot of potential danger if people are dropping acid without supervision or in bad places where they can be put in bad situations, or taking drugs they -think- are acid but are actually dangerous compounds. But saying that LSD damages you without qualifying that statement is misguided.
