Taylor Swift explains "Clean"; might be about Harry Styles
We’re all aware by now that Taylor Swift is a genius wordsmith, able to craft lyrics that literally describe every emotional journey you’ve ever experienced. No matter what you’re dealing with (whether it’s heartbreak, happiness, or overwhelming love) there’s a Taylor Swift song that can pretty much understand your situation better than you ever did.
And with her latest album 1989, it’s no different. Especially with her emotional ballad “Clean,” an ode to that beautiful, enlightening moment in time when you finally realize you’re over someone. In her cover story for Elle’s June issue, Swift talks all about the real life inspiration behind the song — which may or may not be Harry Styles — and trying to get over heartbreak.
Quote:
“Clean” I wrote as I was walking out of Liberty in London. Someone I used to date—it hit me that I’d been in the same city as him for two weeks and I hadn’t thought about it. When it did hit me, it was like, Oh, I hope he’s doing well. And nothing else. And you know how it is when you’re going through heartbreak. A heartbroken person is unlike any other person. Their time moves at a completely different pace than ours. It’s this mental, physical, emotional ache and feeling so conflicted. Nothing distracts you from it.
If we go by the album credits, she co-wrote the song. If we go by what Imogen Heap actually said, Taylor came up with half of the song ready and wrote the other half while she worked on the production, so no!
