Um. It's a typical 3rd person action adventure. You can choose the path of being a hero and villain based on your actions. And you follow the story to solve problems and discover secrets with your super powers. You also pick up new powers from different elements along the way. It's basically a combination of shooting (energy balls), brawling and free running.
Yeh. It has a narrative with very good acting/voice acting and fun likeable characters. I don't think you have to play the previous to understand because it's a completely different time and place and has a new protagonist.
My problem with the game is that it's very look but don't touch. Despite how beautiful the setting is, and how sufficient the map size is, for some reason, I have no connection with the environment whatsoever. It's not very immersive at all. Unlike Assassins Creed Unity which is also a open world sandbox, every district has a certain distinctive feel and mood to it from the detail on the buildings to the NPCs. Even with all of it's spawn glitches, it's way more immersive. Unfortunately in Infamous 2nd Son though their environments are variously detailed in actuality, some how it all blends as 1 flat platform. Makes for quite a shallow gameplay experience tbh. I never finished it.
