Star Wars... I remember because I begged my parents to take me to see the movie and then I begged them to buy me the VHS. It was such a big deal. All over TV, in magazines, kids talking about it.
I don't remember Batman but I know that Phantom Menace had a massive years-long buildup for Star Wars fans waiting for 20 years for a new installment. Even though it ended up disappointing, I think the pre-release hype for Phantom Menace was bigger than Deathly Hollows.
I didn't include Avatar, Titanic or Frozen in the options, because there were not that much hype before their release, or at least not as much as the options listed.
