Celebration- the album has been certified Gold (the sale of 500,000 units. Units are defined as sales through retail outlets, record clubs, rack jobbers, and all ancillary markets that legally distribute music) by the RIAA ..(11/09/2009)

American Life was in the midst of her drama with the whole War, etc. whatever. So it suffered as did the Dixie Chicks at the time of their public comments about the war and Bush. I don't think it really sold 1 million though.
COAD is platinum, but it sold like 1.6 million.

Wow, I knew AL was a turning point in her American sales but I assumed it sold 1.5-2m and was certified 2x... That's a bigger drop than AFY to DJ.

I think ashu meant that COAD's and HC's relatively low US sales are due to her US decline, not that they caused it.

It was one of the reasons, but... i think the American people just got tired of Madonna.
