I don't know the complete mechanics, but they have said that Windows will have a subset of Android OS (remember Cyanogen OS), which will enable Android developers to port their Java/C++ android apps into Windows without having the need for an emulator.

In terms of the Objective C apps (iOS), Visual Studio will have a framework, to help port apps into Windows. I don't know how this works, but this is what I vaguely understood.

I almost bought a Blackberry Passport due to the ability to run Android apps on it but the camera is too poor for my needs. LG G4 (from yesterday) is tempting too... but **** that if I can get the 1520 or another Windows Phone running android apps. We`ll see how this works.

Okay I have read a little about the process. It's basically what iOS developers had been doing to port their apps in Android for a while. Microsoft is only hoping to be the 2nd platform on the line for developers to import their titles. So it still goes like iOS first, Android second, and hopefully Windows 10 3rd. It's still a bet.

We had it for a long time but then when Snapchat announced the ability to send money thru Snapchat they shut down the Windows phone 3rd party app everyone was using (6snap). It`s like the one major app that everyone bitches about not having... it hurts more because we did have it at one point.

Doesn't matter how many or how little of the population usee Windows Phones anymore when now the OS is integrated in all of the Windows platform, ranging from desktop, laptops, to mobile. This means that a mere 2.7% mobile marketshare is now going to be a 1.5B device population using Windows 10. 1.5B people can use Windows app, and now just announced, Android and iOS apps.

Try harder, Windows always gets the last laugh.

Yeah, hopefully this bet pays off, knowing that Windows is now not just a Phone mobile, but a universal Windows ecosystem that runs in all devices.

Apple won't let that happen. BlackBerry 10 has been running Android apps since it's release in early 2013, but not iOS ones because Apple doesn't allow that.

However, if this converter or whatever changes such app directly to a native full working new Windows app, then there won't be a problem.

It's not running apps on another platform, it's porting them. Apple has no say on developers' codes.

Apple can't do **** about it, they don't own the coding language.

To my understanding (I don't code)... basically the developer can port over their apps to Windows 10 with very little hassle. The apps won't have to be fully rebuilt for Windows, the majority of work will be done for them. It makes it highly appealing for existing Android/iOS app developers to develop for Windows 10. Especially since Windows 10 for PC will clearly slaughter the market share ala Windows 7/XP. Windows Store won't be leeching off the iOS app store... it's up to developers. Maintaining an app for Windows phone 7/8 was annoying due to the low market share & you had to build it from scratch... now that's just not an issue. Market share taken care of + easy to port over apps to Windows 10 = app store is going to experience explosive growth.
